What we’ve learned from 2 weeks of running CapitalStack

How feedback from family offices, RIAs, and our founding member community are shaping the next phase of our investor database & matchmaking platform

Two weeks ago we launched founding memberships for CapitalStack—our new investor database and community for real estate sponsors.

For years, sponsors have told us the same thing: real estate investor data is fragmented, dated, or locked up in expensive platforms built for institutions, not for the rest of the market. And for small- and middle-market PERE firms, family offices, and RIAs—the groups writing meaningful checks today—it’s almost impossible to find helpful data on their mandates & executive contacts.

CapitalStack is our answer. It’s a living database of 2,000+ verified investors, combined with daily intelligence from our own conversations in the market. It’s also a community where sponsors get tools to share their strategies, post deals, and engage with investors in a smarter way.

Our goal isn’t just to list investors—it’s to create a system that makes connecting with them easier, more transparent, and more educational for both sides.

Since launch, we’ve already learned a lot—from our Founding Member community, from running the Matchmaking beta, and from dozens of conversations with family offices and RIAs.

If you’re looking to meet investors, you can learn more about CapitalStack here.

From the Founding Member community:

You’ve told us our daily investor call notes are valuable—but you want more context and easier ways to use them. So we’re making a few changes:

  • Adding search by investor name so you can quickly find who we’re writing about

  • Building advanced filters (investment region and more)

  • Adding 500 new investors into the database (this will be ongoing)

  • Launching a v1 News feature to keep you updated on investor moves and trends.

These should be live by the end of the month.

From Matchmaking:

Our beta program—where we connect CapitalStack sponsors with investors—has given us an important takeaway:

  • Sponsors/subscribers want access to the long tail of family offices and RIAs

  • But those investors don’t want to be pitched—they want to be educated

When we’ve spoken directly with these investor groups, the message has been consistent:

  • They don’t always have big investment teams

  • They’re curious about alternatives, but the jargon and structures can feel like a black box

  • They’d rather learn about strategies in plain English, with context, than be sent a cold deck

So here’s how we’re building Matchmaking to solve for that:

  • Sponsor Profiles: Evergreen, educational, and personal. Designed to showcase not just the strategy, but the people behind it

  • Deal Posts: 90-day posts that illustrate the strategy outlined in the profile—so investors see how theory translates into practice

  • Educational Content: Media created specifically for this audience, from tax strategies and depreciation to emerging themes in real estate (produced by Thesis Driven and guest contributors).

Note: Matchmaking is only available to CapitalStack subscribers.

A quick reminder: we’re capping Founding Members at 500. Founding Members get locked-in pricing at $99/month, and access to post sponsor profiles and deals in our Matchmaking beta. After our first letter two weeks ago, half the spots are already filled.

We’re grateful for the feedback so far—it’s shaping CapitalStack in real time. If you haven’t already, you can lock in your spot here:

Thanks for building with us,

Brad, Paul & Kam

We’ll look forward to seeing you in a Thesis Driven course this summer.
